Fort Worden Building 305

Building 305 was built in 1905 as the first structure standing of the Fort. The building had many lives in the last century including its latest use as a storage facility for relics and general maintenance equipment. Adapting the spaces to the new programming included exploration on space, light and materials. The designers’ teams dove into the experiments of maintaining the old, weaving it with the practical and providing the building with a new life while honoring it’s identity.

The building houses art galleries and art studios, classrooms and support spaces, a local radio station and attic writer’s workshops. The lighting was simple, task oriented and understated to allow the building to be seen in its own light.
